C2. Process pain of grief
C4. Develop enduring connection with deceased while embarking on a new life

I WANT TO HELP!

THE PROJECT:

Austell Elementary recently got a grant to create a learning garden outside their school. When the garden was vandalized by students, the science teacher had the idea to reach out to Paint Love to see if we could involve the students in making the garden a place every student was proud of and felt ownership over. In partnership with The Creatives Project, artist Meta Gary is working with almost every class at Austell to create signage, a mural, a path, outside chalkboards for classes, and decorated benches for the learning garden. This event will be the final students/parent/community volunteer day as well a re-opening celebration for the learning garden!

THE ORGANIZATION:

Austell Elementary is a Title 1 school in Cobb County, Georgia. Paint Love is partnering with The Creatives Project to help make this event possible.

THE PROJECT:

During school time months Wilderness Works provides chaperoned overnight stays in comfortable, child-friendly girls and boys dormitory buildings. Fridays are full of activities (one of which we will host as part of this project), while Saturdays are spent doing some kind of outdoorsy excursion. There will be 30-50 kids, ages 8-11 or in 3rd-5th grade.

Paint Love artist superstar Miranda Kyle will be leading this activity!

THE ORGANIZATION:

Wilderness Works provides at-risk children a place to find caring adults and fun activities that teach and reach. Their mission is to empower and enrich disadvantaged and at-risk children living in urban Atlanta with year-round experiential education, recreation and outdoor adventure. Wilderness Works is a youth development agency serving homeless and disadvantaged children living primarily in Dekalb and Fulton counties.
