Southside Showdown- High school art challenge - March 19

CURRENT NEEDS:

  • 5-9 artist judges

  • Blogger and photographer to document the event

THE PROJECT:

Students from area high school will be participating in team and individual art challenges at the High Museum.

Individual Competitions

 

1) Combine 2 -Head into the gallery and pick out 2 artworks, then combine them into one composition by drawing, painting, collaging, etc.

2) Architecture Photography- Walk around the museum and Woodruff Arts Center Campus and photograph the buildings- bring your unique perspective. Choose your best photo to be judged.

3) Clay Cultural Edifices – Using clay, create a highly detailed building inspired by a culture of your choice.

4) Balance Collages- Using the provided magazines, create an interesting, highly detailed collage that exhibits balance.

 

Team Competitions 

 

1) Cardboard Classroom- Teams will work quickly to re-create their art classroom using just cardboard. 

2) Clay Mascot Bust- Teams will work to create a bust of their school’s mascot.

3) Drawing Rotation-  Each team member will be given a sheet of paper, all members will draw for 3 minutes then pass their paper to the right, teammates will draw 2x on each paper. In the last 15 minutes the teams will collage the 5 drawings together into one composition. 

4) Cut Paper PSA Posters- Work as a team to create a poster using only cut construction paper. Your poster should bring attention to any social justice issue. (Immigration, BLM, Me Too, NFL kneeling, etc.)

 Note: This is not a Paint Love organized event and there is an entry fee to get into the High.

Fostering Together - October 13th

Fostering Together - October 13th

CURRENT NEEDS:

  • Lead artist
  • Volunteers to assist 
  • Volunteer to write a blog post about the event
  • Volunteer to take photographs at the event (no photos allowed of the children's faces)

THE PROJECT:

We want to do a fun art project with 25-40 children in foster care from multiple Georgia foster care agencies.  Half the project will be with a  younger age-group (closer to pre-K) and the other half will be with children between 5-10 years old. 

Timeframe: 10:30-11:30 for the younger kids and 11:30-12:30 for the older
 

THE ORGANIZATION:

Fostering Together’s goal is to see all foster families and the children they foster receive extended family-style support.

Southside Showdown- High school art challenge

CURRENT NEEDS:

  • Blogger and photographer to document the event

THE PROJECT:

Students from area high school will be participating in team and individual art challenges at the High Museum. Paint Love artists will judge the super fun categories listed below:

Session 1: Individual Competitions

  1. Face Jugs- Create a clay jug with an expressive face

  2. Q-Tip Architecture- Inspired by ancient Far East Architecture, assemble a small building using only q-tips and hot glue.

  3. Zoomed-In Drawings - Focus on one small area of a still life and illustrate what you see.

  4. Animorphs- Using your phone for source imagery, assemble a new face using different peoples’ facial features. Mix it up and include one feature of any animal!!

Session 2: Team Competitions

  1. Claykenstein- Teams will create a clay monster by individually creating body parts (meant to look like they do not go together), then assembling at the end to create their monster.

  2. Cardboard Furniture- Teams of 3 will construct cardboard furniture that will ideally be functional.

  3. Exquisite Corpse- Teams will be given a template to draw a section of a body with a background. Bodies will be assembled at the end into one figure.

  4. Rep Your School- Create a composition that is built of symbols that represent your school using drawing or painting materials.

Note: This is not a Paint Love organized event and there is an entry fee to get into the High.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION 

Woodward Elementary School is a Title 1 school in DeKalb County; enrollment is 1,000 students. Approximately 95% are on the free lunch program. Our students are predominantly Hispanic.
